You generate trash every single day! What do you know about your trash –where it goes – how much is recyclable? How does Connecticut take care of all the trash it generates? Is recycling cost-effective? To what extent does recycling reduce our carbon footprint? How much energy is generated at CT’s four trash-to-energy plants? Come to learn the answers and see the recycling process in action!!

    10:00 Welcoming remarks by Tom Kirk, CRRA President, and NRCC President, Otto Schaefer

     

    10:15 Presentation by Paul Nonnenmacher, Director of Public Affairs, CRRA: Overview of the present state of resources recovery efforts in CT, with an emphasis on how recycling efforts (especially single-stream) fit into that picture.

     

    11:00 Tour of the single-stream recycling facility

    12:00 Lunch (sandwich and beverage to be provided)

    12:30 Brief Annual Business Meeting for the NRCC

     

    12:45 Presentation by Senator Tom Gaffey: A summary of recent legislative actions affecting recycling in CT, and recent trends in markets for recycled materials.

     

    1:15 Wrap-up and adjourn

    1:30 Optional tour of the Trash Museum next door

    Directions to CRRA Visitors Center, 211 Murphy Road, Hartford, CT

    Traveling South on I-91:
    Take Exit 27. At end of the ramp turn left onto Airport Road. At traffic light, turn right on Brainard Road. At the first traffic light, turn left onto Murphy Road. Go approximately 1/4 mile. The museum is on your left.

    Traveling North on I-91:
    Take Exit 27. Go straight at the light at the end of the exit onto Murphy Road. Go approximately 1/4 mile. The museum is on your left.

    Traveling South from Charter Oak Bridge:
    Take Exit 87 (Brainard Road) and stay in the left lane. Go straight at the light onto Murphy Road. Go approximately 1/4 mile. The museum is on your left.

    Traveling West on Route 3:
    Go over Putnum Bridge to I-91 North. Take Exit 27 (Airport/Brainard Road). At the end of the exit by the traffic light, continue straight through the intersection onto Murphy Road. Go approximately 1/4 mile. The museum is on your left.
